This is what hearing loss sounds like.

We’ve taken the iHearYa! song and have manipulated it to simulate how it would typically be experienced by a person with moderate hearing loss. You’ll hear that the sound is muffled and that it’s almost impossible to understand the lyrics.

New lyrics for the iHearYa! song, by Joel Hannan

joelJoel Hannan has written his own lyrics for the iHearYa! song. Joel is 13, plays classical guitar but is a huge fan of all music.

He has a mother with hearing loss so appreciates the value of hearing. He’s a passionate hockey player and snowboarder, he’s very fit, often getting up early to do upper body workouts before school and he is an extremely healthy eater.

Walking down the street
With vibrations at my feet
But no sounds to accompany them
I turn around
Desperately look up
And hope my cry will be heard.

Chorus

Banging their heads
To the music that they hear
Makes run down my back
The chill of great fear
Can they hear me, can they hear me
If I say, I hear ya?

Chorus
