What We’re All About
The Hearing Foundation of Canada is committed to eliminating the devastating effects of hearing loss on the quality of life of Canadians by promoting prevention, early diagnosis, leading edge medical research and successful intervention.
We believe in the power of communication to connect people to each other and the world around them. For most people, the sense of hearing is a big part of that communication. We’re concerned at the rising incidence of permanent hearing damage due to noise overexposure, especially among youth.
What We Do
- Baby’s Communication Checklist: we distribute thousands of these to new moms every year, to let them know how important hearing is to their child’s communication and well-being – and how they can help protect it from damage from noisy toys, etc.
- Sound Sense: this is our Grade 6 awareness program that is presented to elementary schools across the country
- Noise Classrooms Initiative: schools are really noisy places these days, so the Hearing Foundation has joined forces with other hearing-related organizations to raise awareness about the problem – and how to solve it!
- Loud Love, Loud Yoga, Loud Office Public Service Announcements: Click here to see/hear our award-winning ads
- iHearYa!
- Medical Research: Every year the Hearing Foundation funds innovative research projects that explore how we can both prevent hearing loss, reverse its damage and find new ways for deaf and hard of hearing people to live more successfully with their permanent hearing loss
